森ガール (mori gyaru), which literally translates to forest girl, has been a buzz word in online japanese fashion communities since march, when SPOON magazine published their "森ガール A to Z" issue. the astounding popularity of the special issue has prompted SPOON to release a second edition, which is now available (and which i'm eagerly awaiting to find in my mail box!)
neither the term or the fashion is new. the forest girl style is similar to the natural-kei that has long been featured in magazines like SPOON, and the term itself was coined over two years ago on the popular social networking site mixi.
fashion folklore has it that mixi user choco was told by her friend that she looked like she belonged in a forest. following that, choco started a 森ガール mixi community in june 2006.
in a poll done by search engine Goo, japanese netizens voted for which female celebrity they thought best represented the 森ガール style. the winner was, not surprisingly, actress Yuu Aoi - the cover girl for SPOON's special issue. actresses Miyazaki Aoi and Ueno Juri took second and third place, respectively.
a few 森ガール staples
• loose dresses and skirts, especially A-line
• dark blue, dark green and bordeaux brown colors
• short nails
• fur, knitwear, fluffy hats and ear-muffs, ponchos and boleros
• animal motifs and candy motifs, checks and dots, floral retro, lace fabrics
• leather bags, pochettes
• small gold accessories
• basic round-toed flat shoes

recently, i've developed such a girlcrush on model daul kim. she's absolutely stunning, and i love reading her blog I LIKE TO FORK MYSELF. not only beautiful, but she seems to have a great, fun personality. plus, i'm in love with her personal style!

her girlcrush status was officially cemented today when i read her post firing back at criticism she has received from s.korean netizens.
props to her for telling it like it is!

South Korean record company SM Entertainment recently revealed their new girl group, f(x), to the public. the five member group is set to debut on september 2nd with a special live stage. the five members, Luna, Victoria, Krystal, Sulli and Amber will also use the stage to show of their special talents. (i'm assuming there will be a lot of dancing, since the group is being marketed as such, rather than as a vocal group)
they are also probably the best styled girl group that has debuted so far this year. i love everything about their group picture (above) and the MV teaser (except, sadly, the song itself). they've really struck gold here, embodying some of my favorite trends this fall and they've also taken a bit of a risk with the androgynous styling of member Amber.
i'm crossing my fingers for their stylists to keep up the good work.

i saw veronica maggio live yesterday. she's a swedish-italian singer (scando-italians represent!) and one of my favorite artists. and holyholy she was amazing! like, she sounds even better live than she does in recordings. really strong and clear voice, and so cute on stage. (but when are swedish girls not cute?) even though her set was really short (just nearly an hour) she played so many of her best songs - though oh, i wish she'd sung "nöjd?" instead of "i staden växer inga blommor". the highlight was of course "måndagsbarn" which is probably her most popular song, though i think my favorite songs were "17 år", "gammal sång" and "stopp".
i liked her outfit too.
